Gold Rush for Florida faculty

At the Society of American Foresters national meeting this week in Portland, Oregon, the University of Florida School of Forest Resources and Conservation struck gold. Shibu Jose won the National Young Leader award presented to the professional, practitioner or academician under age 40 who has made the most impact. In presenting the award to Shibu in front of the 2,000 attendees, the presenter stressed the quality of Shibu's academic programs, his current service as editor or associate editor of 5 top journals and his service to the profession -- most recently as national chair of the SAF Diversity Council.

Alan Long and Chris Demers were awarded the 2007 Family Forests Education Award presented jointly by the National Woodland Owners Association and National Association of Universities with Forest Resources Programs at the SAF National Meeting in Portland, OR this week. The award for the "Florida Forest Stewardship Program" stressed the quality, quantity and variety of Extension programs for landowners in FL.

Laura Sadowski and Taylor Stein came in third nationally out of the more than 60 SAF Student Chapters for the quality, attractiveness and accessibility of the new website for the Florida student chapter.
