Deputy Chief of State and Private Changes Post
Joel Holtrop will be the next Deputy Chief for the National Forest System
I am pleased to announce that Joel Holtrop will be the next Deputy Chieffor the National Forest System.
Joel's leadership of the fire and aviation program during some of the most
severe fire years we have experienced, along with all of the other state
and private forestry programs, has been outstanding.
I know this wasn't an easy decision for Joel, who put a lot into the State
and Private job and developed some strong personal and professional
connections and working relationships with state foresters and tribal
leaders throughout the country. I'm grateful that he is willing to make
the switch and know he will do well in providing leadership for the
National Forest System.
Joel's effective date is March 6, 2005. Please join me in wishing Tom
Thompson a great retirement and congratulating Joel in his new assignment.
In addition, join me in welcoming Pete Roussopoulos to the Washington
Office as Acting Deputy Chief for State and Private Forestry. Pete has
agreed to come in to help us keep up the good work in S&PF as we search for
a new Deputy Chief.
