Assistant Extension Professor, Forest Economics and Management

A Ph.D. degree with a specialization in forest economics, forest management, or a related field. At least one degree must be from an accredited professional forestry program. Candidates who are ABD will be considered for this position but must have completed the degree before being hired. A knowledge of financial analysis, forest growth and yield modeling, and experience in forestry or the forest products industry is desirable.

Responsibilities:

Lead the department’s statewide forestry extension education program in forest

economics and management.Candidates are sought with a demonstrated interest

in the transfer and application of knowledge in the specialized areas of financial

analysis, timber markets, and price trends through extension education programs

to various constituent groups. The successful candidate will be expected to

develop and conduct these specialized science-based educational programs in

cooperation with the MSU-Extension Service and other agencies and associations.

A second program responsibility will be the development and support of a

comprehensive continuing education program offering for professional foresters. A

third program responsibility will be to contribute to youth educational programs

such as 4-H, Future Farmers of America, and youth summer programs. The

candidate will seek extramural funds to support extension programs.

 

Rank and Salary:

This is a full-time, non-tenure track, 100% extension, continuing, 12-month

position. Salary is  negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and

experience.

 

The Department of Forestry:

The Department of Forestry is one of three departments in the College of Forest 

Resources and the Mississippi Forest and Wildlife Research Center, a separately-

funded state agency.   Department activities include undergraduate and graduate

instruction, research, service, and extension programs in forestry and natural

resources.
