ASSISTANT/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF FOREST HYDROLOGY, School of Forest Resources

Position: Forest Hydrology (Assistant/ Associate Professor, tenure-track) Responsibilities: Research (75%) and resident instruction (25%) in forest hydrology with an emphasis on environmental problems related to water quality and quantity on forested and mixed land-use watersheds in the Appalachian hardwood forest region and atmospheric deposition. Research interests related to hydrologic processes and watershed biogeochemistry with a focus on impacts of forest management, land-use change, atmospheric deposition, and climate change are encouraged. The individual could assume responsibilities for a regional atmospheric deposition research program and allied efforts investigating the influence of forest management practices on the Penn State University Experimental Watersheds (http://www.sfr.cas.psu.edu/Faculty/lynch.htm).

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an innovative and relevant research program by securing external financial support, recruiting and advising graduate students, collaborating with relevant local, state and federal agencies, and publishing research results in peer-reviewed journals and other appropriate outlets. Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborations are likely to be a central component of future research efforts on the watershed research program as well as atmospheric deposition monitoring. This position is within the College of Agricultural Sciences, with support provided by the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment (http://www.environment.psu.edu).

 

The successful candidate is expected to develop and teach a senior-level course in water quality/watershed management and a graduate course in their area of specialization.

 

Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph. D. in forest hydrology or an allied field, such as water science and management, geoscience, atmospheric chemistry, soils, geography, and aquatic ecology. The position requires managerial capabilities and an ability of working effectively with peer audiences internal and external to this institution. The successful candidate must have excellent verbal and written skills and creative approaches to solving problems, the later demonstrated by significant contributions to technical reports and scientific publications.

 

Salary and Rank: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
