Assistant Professor of Environmental Risk Analysis/Decision Science

This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position in the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR). The incumbent will be expected to contribute to the SENR teaching and advising programs in environmental social science and develop a nationally recognized research program in decision science or risk analysis related to environmental or natural resource management and global climate change. Specific expectations and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Teach graduate and undergraduate courses related to environmental risk analysis and its communication.

• Develop an independent research program related to risk, decision processes, and/or stakeholder participation with appropriate interdisciplinary alliances and focus on graduate education.

• Secure extramural funding and publish in refereed journals.

• Advise graduate and undergraduate students, including honors students, and assist with advising student organizations.

• Work collaboratively with other University faculty/personnel, government agencies, non-government organizations, and citizen groups to advance the land grant mission of the University.

• Serve the University and professional communities through appropriate activities.

Qualifications: Earned Ph.D. with strong academic background in the environmental social sciences. We are especially interested in individuals with disciplinary training in decision science, cognitive psychology, behavioral economics, or related disciplines with expertise in environmental or natural resource issues. This position is intended to address the need of managers and policy makers to understand not only ecological processes, but also how stakeholders respond to information and make judgments about their behavior.  Adaptive strategies for dealing with societal issues related to abrupt climate change or water quality are of special interest, although any environmental or natural resource focus will be considered. Demonstrated teaching and research expertise are preferred. The successful candidate will also demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and a willingness and ability to work closely with other people.

Salary/Support: Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
