Assistant Professor, Wildlife Ecology/ Conservation Biology

Position: The Department of Forest and Wildlife Ecology invites applications for an academic-year, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Wildlife Ecology/Conservation Biology (50% Instruction and 50% Research). Candidates should have research interests in the conservation and recovery of endangered and threatened species at scales ranging from local to international. This position is vital for meeting our current and future research and instruction needs, and presents an important opportunity for significant outreach contributions at the national and international levels.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active and well-funded research program focused on wildlife ecology/conservation biology and the recovery of rare and threatened species. We will consider applicants with expertise in several taxonomic groups, but our preference is for a candidate with a strong background in avian ecology. Participation in faculty-led seminars, mentoring masters and doctoral students, and securing funding for their research is expected. Teaching obligations include a core undergraduate course in wildlife management and one or two courses in conservation biology (one a high-enrollment undergraduate-level course and the other an advanced graduate-level course). The incumbent will be expected to contribute to teaching and advising undergraduate students in classroom and field settings. This position will play a central role in campus-wide conservation biology and ornithology programs. The successful candidate will be required to perform university and community service as appropriate.

Qualifications: An earned doctorate with expertise in a conservation science such Conservation Biology, Wildlife Ecology, Zoology or closely related field is required. The ability to apply conservation science concepts, models and theories to the study of biodiversity is essential. Preference will be given to candidates that present evidence of the potential for teaching excellence and a beginning record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States and have excellent English and communication skills. The successful candidate must complete her/his Ph.D. before appointment at the assistant professor level.
