Duties and Responsibilites:
Provide leadership in the Forest and Wildlife Research Center and with Forest Products Department faculty to identify current research issues and support faculty to seek external research funding.
Work with the Dean and Director to secure funding for salaries and operational funds; guide the department to a position of distinguished leadership in the 21st century.
Provide leadership necessary to develop strong undergraduate, graduate programs of instruction and doctoral programs. Work with individual faculty members in developing innovative and effective teaching concepts that will enhance student retention.
Promote graduate education with an emphasis on doctoral studies.
Assign responsibilities to faculty and staff to provide the most effective utilization of resources while maintaining the proper distribution among teaching, research and service programs.
Encourage and provide leadership and guidance to faculty to seek extramural funding.
Encourage faculty and staff to attend professional improvement conferences and seminars appropriate for new, innovative ideas in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
Develop an effective recruiting program for both undergraduate and graduate students. This should be done in concert with the Dean/ Associate Dean of the College of Forest Resources and the Office of Enrollment Services.
Work to strengthen the technology transfer system to meet the needs of the forest products industry. Research information must be made available to all segments of the industry in a timely and effective manner.
Develop and maintain a working relationship with both primary and secondary forest products industries.
Minimum Qualifications:
Earned Doctorate in forest products, wood science, forestry or closely related field
Established record of excellence in the Forest Products area appropriate for tenure and the credentials to hold the rank of professor.
Candidates should have demonstrated work experience in planning, developing, coordinating and evaluating teaching, research and service programs; administration of resources; directing personnel; and interpersonal communication skills needed to coordinate interdisciplinary programs with other departments, federal and state agencies, other land-grant universities, the forest products industry and professional organizations.
