Assistant Professor/Extension Specialist-Sustainable Rural Tourism

POSITION DESCRIPTION - The individual in this position is responsible for leading a statewide program in sustainable rural tourism development through the North Carolina cooperative Extension Service. The position is 75% extension, 25% teaching. The primary focus of the position is on training extension field faculty on issues relating to rural tourism development, and on supporting field faculty working with local entrepreneurs, groups, and communities through the provision of educational programs and materials. Secondarily, the extension specialist will provide technical assistance to land and business owners, as well as, community planners and public officials.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in tourism, marketing, community development or other appropriate field

Experience in rural tourism development, management, and marketing

Familiarity with small business development, community development, and the overall tourism system

Experience with facilitation for stakeholder groups and individuals

Experience with grant-writing and grant management

Knowledge of North Carolina is preferred
