Oklahoma State University is a leading land-grant university in a region represented by an environmental gradient that ranges from pine forests with >1400 mm of rainfall to shortgrass prairie and pinyon-juniper rangelands with <600 mm of rainfall. The department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management is a unique inter-disciplinary department that is based on collaboration of scientists with diverse backgrounds.
Responsibilities:
Conduct research and extension in ecohydrology and related areas of natural resource ecology and management in cooperation with NREM faculty and other natural resource professionals. Departmental support will be provided in a collaborative research and extension environment. Working relationships with other university units and professionals within the region and the nation is expected.
1. Establish a nationally recognized externally funded research program to meet the needs of the State of Oklahoma and the region. Desirable areas of research include, but are not limited to, scaling ecohydrological processes from catchment to basin scales, effects of vegetation and vegetation management on stream flow regimen, modeling and measurement of transpiration and other hydrologic processes, riparian and wetland – land interactions, and the effects of land management on environmental flows.
2. Develop a comprehensive extension program based on research conducted in this region and other regions to promote sustainable land management with a focus on water.
3. Recruit, mentor and train graduate students.
4. Serve on Departmental, Division and University committees appropriate to interests, responsibilities and organizational mission.
Qualifications:
1. A Ph.D. in ecohydrology, ecology, hydrology, watershed science or related field. The area of expertise and research interest should be focused on the link between ecology and hydrology.
2. Ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
3. Ability and desire to work closely and cooperatively with the NREM faculty and other natural resources professionals to (1) develop and maintain an active, nationally recognized interdisciplinary research program on issues related to ecohydrology within our region, to include publishing in leading scientific journals; (2) seek and secure extramural funding through participation in competitive grants programs and; (3) develop productive extension programs in ecohydrology.
4. Must be eligible to accept full-time employment in the United States at the time appointment is made.
5. Ability to communicate with students, the general public and other scientists concerning eco-hydrology and land management within the region.
Employment Conditions:
The position will be filled by May 1, 2008 or as soon thereafter as a qualified candidate is available. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
