The Kansas Forest Service is seeking to fill the position of State Forester. This position serves as the administrator of the Kansas Forest Service with a staff of 28 people and an annual budget of $2.5 million. The position is located at the Forest Service State Office in Manhattan, KS.

Description: Under supervision of the Department Head of Horticulture, Forestry and Recreational Resources, the position provides leadership to state forestry programs including Rural Forestry, Forest Products, Community Forestry, Conservation Tree Planting, Fire Management, Forest Inventory & Analysis, Forest Health and Conservation Education; represents the agency with federal, state, local and private natural resource agencies and organizations; administers budget; work effectively with an Advisory Council; assists staff in meeting annual program and professional career goals and evaluating their performance; creates an environment that fosters diversity, collegiality and ability to work in a multi-cultural setting; and participates in regional and national forestry associations and work groups. 

Qualifications: BS degree in forestry from a SAF accredited school.  Administration and supervisory experience required.  Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.  Demonstrated experience with budget development and management.  Ability to develop and successfully implement a vision of leadership in establishing and maintaining a highly successful forestry agency.  A strong commitment to expanding and fostering diversity. 

Salary: Dependent upon qualifications and experience.
