America's Private Land, A Geography of Hope is a call to action -- a call to renew our national commitment to America's private land and private landowners. In 1935, this Nation made an historic commitment to the stewardship of private land in the Soil Conservation Act. The Act, passed in the depths of the Dust Bowl, recognized that the long-term welfare of all Americans rested in the hands of farmers and ranchers struggling to keep their land from eroding away.
