WORK LOCATION: The Beauregard Extension office is located in DeRidder, Louisiana. The area to be served is Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, and Jeff Davis Parishes (Forestry) and Beauregard Parish (Agriculture and Natural Resources). This area of Louisiana is comprised primarily of rolling hills and large forested areas. A small area of Beauregard parish is devoted to row crop agriculture (rice, corn, soybeans) the majority of the parish is covered by pine forest and pasture land. Forestry is the largest natural resource industry. There are several small cattle operations, many home gardeners and recreational horse owners in Beauregard the parish of domicile.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: This is a 100% Extension appointment with primary responsibilities for forestry educational programming for the 4 parish area and adult agricultural programs for Beauregard parish. Limited support for 4-H youth educational programs is also expected.

The Assistant/Associate/Area Agent will provide leadership for all adult agricultural and natural resource Extension programs in Beauregard parish in the areas of row crops, home grounds, and home gardens. He/She will work with producers and homeowners to plan and organize a well-balanced Extension educational program for clientele in these areas. The agent will conduct on-farm visits, demonstrations, workshops, and educational meetings. The agent will disseminate AgCenter recommendations and information. The incumbent will assist with the parish web page and keep information current for parish clientele.
The incumbent is expected to perform other tasks that may be assigned by supervisor(s) and work cooperatively with other Extension faculty at the parish, district, and state levels.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A baccalaureate degree in forestry, wildlife or closely related areas is required. A Master's degree is preferred. Persons with only an undergraduate degree must have a minimum 2.5 overall grade-point average based on a 4-point grading system. If the applicant has pursued any graduate courses, the grade-point average of all graduate work must be at least 3.0 on a 4.0 system. The applicant must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills. Applicant must demonstrate effective computer skills. A Masters degree in a field listed above is preferred or must be obtained within six years of employment. Experience in recruiting, training and supervising volunteers and experience in teaching and applying principles of leadership development to both youth and adults is also desired. Knowledge of public relations and the ability to cope with change are highly desirable characteristics. Ability to work with and through others is essential as is the ability to function with minimum supervision.
