Function: The Head, Department of Forestry, provides leadership and administration for the teaching, research, extension, and service functions of the department. The Head is responsible to the Dean, College of Forest Resources, for  academic programs in forestry; to the Director, Forest and Wildlife Research Center, for forestry research and development programs; and to the Director, MSU Extension Service, for forestry extension programs.

Responsibilities: Provide administration and leadership for teaching, research, extension, and service programs of the department.  Develop budget requests, manage fiscal resources and personnel, and help secure extramural funding. Serve on administrative councils for the College of Forest Resources, Forest and Wildlife Research Center, and MSU Extension Center. Provide leadership for program planning groups and for development of cooperative relationships. Encourage faculty and staff to attend conferences and seminars in order to continue professional improvement. Work closely with appropriate administrative units at MSU to maintain effective recruiting/retention programs for students, enhance private contributions, provide quality extension educational programs to the forestry community, and continue productive relationships with forest industries and organizations.

Minimum Qualifications: An earned Ph.D. degree in forestry or a closely related field is required, with an established record of excellence that is appropriate for tenure and the rank of Professor. Candidates should also provide evidence of administrative and leadership skills, demonstrate commitment to quality education, and have a sustained record of high scholarship and contributions to professional organizations.

Salary: Salary is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
