Forestry Extension Associate in Non-Industrial Private Forestry
Position Title:
Forestry Extension Associate, Cooperative Extension Service, University of Kentucky,
Department of Forestry. (Specific title: Agricultural Extension Specialist Associate SM510508).
Qualifications:
B.S. in Forestry or M.S. in Forestry preferred. Experience in the Cooperative Extension Service
and/or experience with non-industrial private forest owners and woodland management
preferred.
Responsibilities:
The Extension Associate, in the Department of Forestry at the University of Kentucky, will work
to enhance the ability of non-industrial private forest owners and aligned professionals to deal
with issues that are critical to the sustainability and productivity of Kentucky's forests. The
Associate will work, in cooperation with forestry specialists/associates, county extension agents,
and with UK Forestry partners under the direction of the forestry extension committee, to
develop, coordinate, and participate in education and training programs and materials and to
assist in the development of infrastructure to facilitate improvement of non-industrial private
forest management. Examples of activities include: continuing education programs for forest
owners, assisting in the development of county forestry organizations, development of County
Agent training programs and demonstration areas, assistance with the development of education
and training videos and materials to woodland management and sustainability.
Position Specifics:
The position is a 12-month full-time, non-tenure track position located on the main campus of
the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY. Salary is negotiable and will be commensurate
with qualifications and is provided from both federal and extension program funds.
