POSITION: Associate Dean for Extended Education and Extension Program Leader, College of Forestry
TYPE OF POSITION: Professional Faculty, 12 month appointment; based upon acceptable credentials, the successful candidate will be granted tenure at the rank of associate or full professor.
LOCATION: College of Forestry, Corvallis, Oregon State University
STARTING DATE: January 1, 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: OSU is only one of two American universities to hold the Land Grant, Sea Grant, Sun Grant, and Space Grant designation and is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research-Extensive university. OSU is located in Corvallis, a community o0f 53,000 people situated in the Willamette Valley between Portland and Eugene. Ocean beaches, lakes, rivers, forests, high desert, the rugged Cascade and Coast Ranges, and the urban amenities of the Portland metropolitan area are all within a 100-mile drive of Corvallis. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The Associate Dean Extended Education and Extension Program Leader will be an experienced scholar who can provide visionary and visible leadership for outreach programs within Forestry. He/she will lead an evolving effort to meet needs of emerging audiences and rapidly changing communities. The position has statewide executive responsibility and serves as the primary administrator for all aspects of extended education activities in the College. The position also carries leadership responsibilities for Oregon State University's participation in the Sustainable Forestry Partnership. The position provides timely, cost effective, and knowledgeable support for identifying, managing and coordinating the resources necessary to plan, implement and evaluate outreach programs to a wide array of audiences.
Analyzes changing conditions in forestry and natural resources, and determines the effect of such changes on College programs and opportunities. Uses this information to advise the Dean, department heads and faculty members on issues relating to extended education. Coordinates College programs within OSU Extension Service and other units and develops cooperative efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
· Master's degree in Forestry or related area; or Master's degree with significant experience in natural resources.
· Credentials suitable for tenure and rank of Professor or Associate Professor.
· Demonstrated professional competence and scholarship by accomplishments in extended education programs.
· Demonstrated ability to inspire others to effective, creative and future-oriented performance.
· Evidence of outstanding leadership and administrative experience and ability in budget administration, public relations, policy formulation and program implementation.
· Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Preferred
Demonstrated leadership in a natural resources field as evidenced by:
· Earned PhD, in Forestry, Natural Resources or related area.
· Significant experience in conducting extension and outreach programs.
· Service to the profession, employing institutions and society through meaningful leadership roles.
· Distinction among peers through appropriate awards and recognition.
· Demonstrated ability to succeed in new systems and situations or experience in higher education
· Strong record of scholarly outputs such as, but not limited to educational programs and publications.
NATURE OF JOB, SALARY AND BENEFITS: Professional, 12-month academic faculty appointment. Tenure and academic rank of associate or full professor may be granted depending upon credentials. Re-appointment at the discretion of the Dean. Salary is dependent upon qualifications.
