Responsibilities: The successful candidate will providedirection and leadership during a progressive and innovative era forthe Department. In response to changing scientific and human dimensionsthat are broadening and redefining the discipline of forestry andimpacting other natural resource sciences, the Department, with strongsupport from the Dean and Provost, has developed a new vision of ourscientific and land-grant mission. This vision includes enhancing astrong core program in forestry and developing national prominence inresearch and graduate education, as well as addressing a broader rangeof biodiversity conservation, environmental and natural resourceissues. This broader scope will involve a name change to reflect theDepartments mission. The vision statement for the Department is at http://www.uky.edu/Agriculture/Forestry/forestry.html.The Chair serves as the administrative officer and program leader forthe Department of Forestry, reporting directly to the Dean of theCollege of Agriculture.

Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a Ph. D. in Forestryor a related natural resource science discipline and show ability todevelop and implement a vision for the expanded departmental mission,as well as possess the ability to lead excellent teaching, research andextension programs. Demonstrated ability to support nationallyprominent research and graduate education is a key qualification.Candidates must have a clear understanding of the land-grant universitymission and a broad vision for the Departments role within the system.Administrative experience and/or evidence of potential for effectiveadministration; a national reputation for excellent scholarship; andstrong leadership, organizational and inter-personal skills are alsoexpected. Applicants should also meet qualifications for immediatetenure in the Department and rank of full professor.

Department:
The Department of Forestry currently has 17 full-timefaculty positions (including up to five faculty to be recruited andhired by the successful Chair candidate) and eight research orextension specialists. The Department Chair will provide leadership forits Society of American Foresters accredited Forestry undergraduateprogram and an interdisciplinary undergraduate program in NaturalResources and Conservation Management. The Department also managesunique assets such as a nationally recognized Wood Utilization Centerand the Universitys Robinson Forest, both located in eastern Kentucky.

Salary:
Salary is negotiable. Benefits and salary are competitivewith other leading land grant universities.
