Coordinator - SFI Program

The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring efficiency in the day to day operation of SFI Inc and providing support to senior staff, the Board and working committees. This position includes a combination of office administration duties, along with opportunities to become involved in the core work of the SFI Program. The Coordinator reports to the Vice President.

Organization Background

Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), Inc is a 501 c(3), non-profit, organization located in Arlington, Virginia, and is solely responsible for maintaining, overseeing and improving the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Program. The SFI Program is a comprehensive and rigorous sustainable forestry certification system that encompasses approximately 130 million certified acres in the US and Canada and includes over 200 program participants. SFI Inc is overseen by a 15 member Board of Directors that is 1/3 leading environmental CEO's, 1/3 forest industry CEO's and 1/3 representatives from the broader forestry community (i.e. academics, family forest landowners and state foresters). Essential Job Functions

Administrative Duties: Provide administrative, logistical, and substantive support in managing the offices of the Vice President and President, provide support to senior staff including but not limited to managing the schedule, arranging travel plans, screening calls, handling mail, drafting correspondence and memos, creating text and graphics for presentations, copying, faxing, and filing.

Departmental Management Duties:

  • Maintenance of program databases
  • Support for all Board and committee meetings, and the SFI Annual Conference
  • Contribute to the monthly newsletter
  • Assist in the development of presentations, SFI website, and other outreach materials
  • Manage the publications department
  • Assist in SFI annual awards

Qualifications/Skills/Knowledge

BS degree in Forestry, Natural Resources or other closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates that have completed an advanced degree in their field. Excellent written and communication skills, and proven competence with computer programs, such as PowerPoint, Word, and Adobe. Experience with databases a plus.

Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion with limited supervision. Self motivated, and able to work easily with a team and also independently. Ability to multi-task. Attention to detail, ability to grasp new tasks/skills quickly without need for instruction, rapport with co-workers, excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Position also requires the ability to respect confidentiality and exercise discretion in sensitive SFI matters.
