The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa is recruiting a Dean for the College of Tropical Agriculture & Human Resources. As UHM is a land-, sea- and space-grant institution and the only Carnegie classified Research University in the Pacific Basin, the Dean will also serve as the Director for Research and Cooperative Extension, and must serve as a member of the State Board of Agriculture in the State of Hawaiˈi. The Dean/Director provides professional leadership and represents the CTAHR and the University in the educational community locally, nationally, and internationally.

Essential Job Functions: provide effective leadership in developing and implementing the mission of UHM; oversee instructional, extension/outreach, and community services programs; oversee all administrative matters including HR management, construction projects, off-campus research, and financial management; serve as the College’s primary advocate and spokesperson in interactions with officials and legislators at the city, county, state and federal levels; uphold an environment of positive morale, respect, academic vigor, extension services effectiveness, and research productivity; encourage faculty and staff in successfully obtaining extramural grant funding; and oversee the College’s marketing and public relations efforts in order to maximize financial returns and encourage manageable growth.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. in agriculture, natural resources, family and consumer sciences, or related field.
2. Rank of Professor or demonstrated record of comparable professional experience prior to
appointment.
3. Three years of professional experience in academic leadership at the level of department
chairperson or higher, or comparable professional experience.
4. Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
5. Record of distinguished teaching, scholarship, research, publication, and/or professional
activity and achievement.
6. Ability to function successfully in an environment characterized by cultural complexity and
with a strong and valued indigenous presence.
7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple constituencies.
8. Fundraising ability and/or experience.
9. Demonstrated commitment to consultative and collaborative processes.
10. Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical and academic standards.
