The University of Idaho College of Natural Resources seeks an exceptional individual to serve as Head of the Department of Forest, Rangeland, and Fire Sciences. The candidate will lead outstanding programs, mentor faculty, and prepare globally competitive graduates.

Essential Job Functions: guide and mentor faculty, staff, and students; communicate effectively with stakeholders; liaise with college and university administration to lead some of Idaho's flagship academic programs; administer departmental instruction, research, outreach, and engagement activities; foster faculty and staff development; grow investments in university research; update and implement the College Strategic Action Plan; and maintain a portfolio of research, teaching, and outreach activities.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

1.    Doctorate in natural resources (or closely-related field) with an outstanding record of research, teaching, and outreach sufficient to merit a national and international reputation appropriate for the rank of Professor

2.  Organizational management and leadership skills, demonstrated by success in academic positions at a research or teaching university or equivalent

3. Vision, capability, and experience to address opportunities and challenges facing natural resources education, research, and outreach

4. Experience in short- and long-term planning and implementation

5. Strong communication skills in domestic and international settings


Preferred Qualifications:

1.  Creative approaches to student engagement

2. Demonstrated ability to enhance graduate and undergraduate education, research, and outreach

3.  Experience in budget development and budget management

4. Advocacy for, and initiation of, collaborative, broad-based, interdisciplinary research and outreach

5. Strong commitment to achieving and sustaining diversity among students, faculty, and staff

6. Experience building relationships with public, private, and international sectors, including alumni and stakeholders
