Director of the Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Sciences, Clemson University

Clemson's Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Sciences is looking to fill its Director position beginning spring 2012. The Institute Director will be responsible for developing a research and education program that builds on the Institute's strengths and works toward improving understanding of the characteristics and function of forested watersheds and developing sustainable management strategies. In addition, the Institute Director will serve as the Executive Director of the Wallace F. Pate Foundation, a subsidiary of the Clemson University Foundation responsible for 700 acres of forested property within the Debordieu residential development on the northern border of the Hobcaw Forest. The Directorial position consists of about 50% administrative duties and 50% research.

Essential Job Functions: hold responsibility for the daily operation and management of the Baruch Institute, entailing the direct supervision of the 5 support staff, budget oversight, facilities operation, and the development of a research and educational program that builds on the Institute's strengths; serve as the Executive Director of the Wallace F. Pate Foundation for Environmental Research and Education; and maintain a productive research program withing the Institute's mission


Minimum Qualifications:

1. Ph.D. in forestry, forest sciences, natural resources, or similar field

2. Proven research record demonstrated by successful grantsmanship, graduate student supervision, and a strong record of peer-reviewed publications

3. Applicants should possess credentials to qualify for a non-tenured senior research scientist appointment


Preferred Qualifications:

1. University administrative and governance experience

2. Experience or familiarity with land-grant schools
