The Forest Products Society (FPS) is seeking nominations and applications for the position of Executive Vice President. The position is available January 1, 2006. FPS is a 501(C)(3) organization, incorporated in 1947, whose Vision is “To be the world leader in technical information transfer to further the socially beneficial use of wood and fiber resources" and whose Mission is “To foster innovation and research in the environmentally sound processing and use of wood and fiber resources by disseminating information and providing forums for networking and the exchange of knowledge." The Society has 1700 total members and a permanent, experienced staff of nine. The Society publishes the Forest Products Journal (10 issues per year) and the quarterly Wood Design Focus, conducts an annual meeting with many technical presentations, coordinates technical conferences on important and timely topics at various locations throughout North America, distributes a wide range of technical and scientific publications, and presents various annual awards. FPS consists of 14 regional Sections and Chapters that operate with the voluntary input and effort of members who conduct technical meetings and other programs of regional or local interest. Position Description: The Executive Vice President (EVP) reports to the Board of Directors of the Forest Products Society. The EVP has oversight of secretarial, fiscal, legal, personnel management, program planning, public relations, publications, membership, and conference planning. The EVP works with the Board of Directors of the Society and the many volunteer members of the Society to foster the vision and mission of the organization.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must have a working knowledge of the broad-based forest products industry, including trade associations, organizations, university programs, and federal laboratories and programs; strong skills in project planning, meeting organization, and fiscal management; demonstrated experience in working with and managing a professional staff; strong organizational skills; ability to follow through and bring projects to closure, motivate and guide volunteers, and communicate with members representing all levels of industry, university, and government organizations.
