Extension Assistant II -- Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries

Assist the Extension Wildlife Specialist in planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and reporting a comprehensive statewide Extension program in wildlife management. Work with county Extension agents and private landowners, as well as the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and other agencies as appropriate. Assist in the implementation, evaluation, and reporting of the Tennessee 4-H Wildlife Project. Support and coordinate a county-based 4-H Shooting Sports program and coordinate the 4-H Wildlife / Shooting Sports Conference. Other duties will include implementing the 4-H Food And Cover Establishment (FACE) Contest, activities associated with 4-H Roundup, and assisting with wildlife judging competition. Participate in other assigned duties as needed to compliment the overall Extension program in the Department of Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries.Perform duties in a nondiscriminatory manner relative to race, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, religion or veteran status.

Extension Assistant II -- Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries. This is a regular, 12-month non-tenure track, 100% appointment with UT Extension. The continuation of this appointment is dependent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance. This special four-year program is funded in part by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

LOCATION
The University of Tennessee, West Tennessee Center for Research, Extension and Public Service, Jackson, TN

EFFECTIVE DATE
Screening of applicants' credentials will begin May 1, 2005,  and continue until position is filled.

REQUIREMENTS
 An M.S. degree in wildlife management or closely related field is required. Applicants should have a strong background in wildlife management and the ability and desire to work with landowners and youth in educational settings. Applicants with prior work experience as a professional wildlife biologist and training in the shooting sports preferred.  Good communication and organization skills desirable.
