Location: 3650 Lake Mary Road, Flagstaff.
The
Arizona State Forestry Division provides for the prevention and
suppression of wildland fires on state and private lands located outside
of incorporated municipalities. This mission is accomplished through
the use of cooperative agreements with local, state and federal agencies
as well as other entities organized to prevent and suppress wildfires.
To further enhance these capabilities, State Forestry Fuels and Fire
Crews are provided through the Arizona Department of Corrections.
Through our programs we protect 22,400,000 acres of state and private
lands. The Forestry Division is also engaged in forest management and
urban and communities forestry activities designed to enhance forest
health. They are currently looking for a Natural Resources Manager
II/Forest Product Utilization/Marketing Specialist.
This position
will work with agencies, organizations, and landowners to facilitate
access to programs and resources that improve forest products
utilization and marketing in Arizona. Position will:
*Identify and
develop marketing opportunities that support and benefit from
sustainable forest management activities in forests on all ownerships
*Assist
landowners and entrepreneurs with management, utilization, and
marketing in support of sustainable ecosystems and wood processing
infrastructure
*Identify, obtain, and implement grants and associated programs to advance utilization and marketing of forest products
*Assist
landowners in finding markets for their wood, and assist wood products
businesses in securing an adequate supply of raw material
*Promote and participate in collaborative, landscape restoration efforts to ensure adequate supply of wood
*Share
these technologies and opportunities with landowners and business
entrepreneurs by facilitating and providing training in forest
management, utilization and marketing
*Assist entrepreneurs to obtain
and benefit from business development expertise in the development and
enhancement of their wood products businesses
*Facilitate the
development of wood-based bioenergy production by identifying and
promoting programs that provide incentives for producers of both wood
and energy
*Provide and secure assistance to improve operating efficiencies for primary and secondary wood products businesses.
This position will include 30%-60% travel.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
*Knowledge of business management
*Knowledge of forest ecology, forest products and uses generated by restoration treatments
*Knowledge of markets for potential and existing restoration treatments generated by wood materials
*Knowledge of grant opportunities and other financial incentives to support management utilization
*Effective
comprehensive oral and written communications as well as grant writing
in support of forest management, product utilization, marketing and
business development
*Facilitative skills for collaborative vision, issue identification and problem solving
*Skill in cognitive thinking, listening, speaking and writing
*Formal education in Forestry and Forestry Products through an accredited forestry curriculum
*Experience
in planning and application of silvicultural treatments, forest product
utilization, and experience in forest products utilization, from
harvesting through primary and secondary processing
