Forest Vegetation Management Temporary Assistant Professor, Department of Forest and Rangeland Stewardship, Colorado State University
The Department of Forest and Rangeland Stewardship and the Colorado Forest Restoration Institute at Colorado State University invites applications and nominations for a full-time (9-month), non-tenure-track teaching and outreach position in Forest Vegetation Management. The position is roughly 40% teaching, 50% research, and 10% Outreach. The Department is interdisciplinary with programs of emphasis in forest ecology and management, forest fire science, watershed science and management, rangeland ecology and management, resource policy and planning, and geospatial sciences. The Department’s faculty support the Warner College of Natural Resources and the University in fulfilling the Land Grant Mission in these programmatic areas. The Forest Restoration Institute is an outreach-oriented program with the mission to provide science-based assistance to land managers, landowners, and stakeholders in designing, implementing, and evaluating treatments aimed at restoring forest conditions and reducing wildfire risk to communities in Colorado and the Interior West

Essential Job Functions: develop and teach the core undergraduate course in Forest Vegetation Management; team-teach undergraduate core courses contributing to undergraduate degree programs; advise undergraduate majors in the Department; provide leadership in designing and delivering outreach programs for the Institute, including working with multi-stakeholder forest restoration collaborative to assess forest restoration needs, and designing and assessing the effectiveness of restoration treatments.
Minimum Qualifications:
1.Ph.D. with at least one degree in forestry, natural resources, or a natural resource-related field
2. Demonstrated teaching experience and effectiveness in forest vegetation management
3. Demonstrated outreach experience and effectiveness in forest restoration planning, implementation, and evaluation
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in the ecology and management of the forest types found in the Interior West
2. Demonstrated field experience in translating restoration and wildfire risk mitigation principles into forest vegetation management prescriptions
3. Experience working in multi-stakeholder collaborative settings
Salary:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a temporary, non-benefited position.
