Function: To lead the departments statewide forestry extensioneducation program in hardwood forest management with emphasis onforestry and related water management issues including water qualityand related hydrological concerns.
Responsibilities: Candidates are sought with a demonstrated interest inthe transfer and application of knowledge in the specialized areas ofhardwood forest management and associated forest/water systems throughextension education programs to various constituent groups.
Areas of education program responsibility will include theestablishment and management of hardwood forests, the effects offorestry activities including forestry BMPs on water quality, flows,erosion, and appropriate forest management responses to TMDLs andassociated
regulations.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and conductspecialized science-based extension education programs on hardwoodforest management within the context of evolving federal, state, andlocal regulations and policies regarding water quality issues. Thesuccessful pursuit of extramural funds for program support is expected.
Qualifications: An earned Ph.D. degree with specialization in hardwoodsilviculture, watershed/wetlands management, or forest hydrology with astrong emphasis on the relationships between hardwood forest managementsystems, forest operations, and water quality management. Someknowledge of forest soils is desirable. An educational backgroundand/or experience in forestry is required.
Rank and Salary: This is a full-time, non-tenure track, continuing,12-month appointment. Salary is
negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Department of Forestry is responsible to the MSUExtensionService for extension programs.The Department also offers academicprograms within the MSU College of Forest Resources and researchprograms within the MSU Forest and Wildlife Research Center.
