Forest Information Technologies Extension Program Specialist
The successful applicant will develop distance education technologies for forestry extension specialists, and will be the Forestry Unit s cornerstone for building a knowledge-based system that provides factual information to the public and disseminates information in a variety of ways. Directs and produces professional web sites, video, interactive CD s and DVD s, and other technologies geared toward educating Texans about forestry.

POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor, Department ofForestry, University of Kentucky. This is a 12 month, tenure-trackappointment. Starting date is by January 1, 2003 (November 1, 2002preferred)QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. degree in Quantitative Forest ResourceManagement. At least one degree in forestry required; B.S. in Forestrypreferred. A strong economic background and experience in GIS isdesirable.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Research (60%) and Teaching (40%). Desirableavenues of research include, but are not limited to, applications ofspatial analysis and economics to forest resource management problems.Particular emphasis related to management issues of NIPF ownerships andoverall forest resource distribution and use is preferred. Thesuccessful candidate will be expected to conduct an extramurally fundedresearch program in their area of expertise. Collaboration with otherforestry and natural resource specialists is strongly encouraged.Potential teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses inTimber Management and Economics, GIS in Natural Resources, andIntegrated Forest Management (the senior capstone course). Graduateteaching opportunities include a course in the area of expertise anddirection of graduate students.
THE DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY: The department of forestry is one ofeleven academic departments in the College of Agriculture. Departmentalactivities include undergraduate instruction in forestry and naturalresources, graduate instruction in forestry, and research and extensionprograms. The Department maintains a 15,000 acre forest which providesan important asset for research, teaching, and extension activities.Strong cooperative relations are maintained with several Universitydepartments.
