University of Missouri Forestry Extension Specialist

The University of Missouris Department of Forestry is seeking aforester who enjoys working with private forest landowners in a statewith approximately 75% of its forested resources in private ownership,and who can develop a new, creative strategy to reach these landowners.We seek the person who can take a leadership role in forestry extensionand is skilled in developing collaborative working arrangements withfederal and state resource agencies such as the Missouri Department ofConservations new Private Lands Program, designed to actively engagethe owners of private lands in the management of their naturalresources. The ideal candidate should have excellent communicationskills, both oral and written and possess up-to-date knowledge of thelatest electronic technology such as distance learning and interactiveweb courses. The position requires an individual who has vision and candesign, develop, and deliver creative extension programs and activitiesthat will have positive impact on the future health, quality and valueof the private timber land in Missouri.

The design and implementation of forestry demonstration areas atexperimental farms and outlying areas managed by the University willalso be an integral part of this position. The position is 80%extension and 20% research, offering the candidate an opportunity todevelop a forestry extension research program in the Department.

For this position the candidate must have B.S. in forestry and Ph.D inforestry or a closely related field of natural resources. The candidateshould have expertise in the area of forest resource management.

This position is a 12-month, full-time, tenure track, faculty positionin forestry extension at the rank of assistant professor and salarydetermination will be based on experience and qualifications.
