POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Position: Faculty Extension Assistant, Extension Educator
Agriculture and Natural Resources (Non Tenure Track Faculty contract)
Location: 112 Baltimore Street, Cumberland, Maryland 21502
Position Description: Responsible for organizing and conducting educational programs in agriculture and natural resources in Allegany County for adults and youth. This includes the development of leadership and the interpretation and dissemination of latest research findings in the following fields: agriculture production and profitability, alternative agriculture enterprises, natural resources, rural economics development and horticulture.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Develop and conduct educational seminars, classes, workshops, and other presentations to address agricultural and natural resources topics throughout Allegany County.
· Work with new and existing agricultural producers on improving livestock and forage production, integrated pest management, pesticide practices, nutrient management, and financial management.
· Respond to requests presented to Allegany County Extension Office via telephone calls, office visits, e-mails or other means for information on lawn care, landscape plants and trees, fruit and vegetable production, insect identification, plant disease diagnosis, and other subjects related to home horticulture, providing appropriate literature and advice in a timely and professional manner.
· Develop media releases in an effort to disseminate agriculture and natural resources information to county residents.
· Develop and implement a Master Gardener Program in Allegany County.
· Coordinate with Family, Youth, and Communities Educator to manage agriculture-related youth programs, such as livestock program and engineering events.
· Develop collaborations with the Allegany County Economic Development office to increase economic opportunities such as agri-tourism, direct marketing and alternative income opportunities.
· Work cooperatively with other agencies and organizations to meet county needs and/or problems.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Agriculture Sciences or a related field. Must have an automobile and driver's license.
