Extension Associate I/II - Forestry

The Department of Forestry and the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Mississippi State University (MSU) are jointly seeking applications for a 12-month, time-limited (4 years), non-tenure track position at the Extension Associate I/II level.

Description: This joint position will be located at the Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville, MS. Programmatic oversight of this position will rest with the two on-campus department heads with administrative oversight by the Head, Delta Research and Extension Center.  A description of the departments of Forestry and Wildlife and Fisheries may be found at http://www.cfr.msstate.edu.  A description of the MSU Extension Service may be found at http://www.msu.cares.com.

 

Qualifications: Earned bachelor=s degree in natural resources management, resource economics, or a related discipline and demonstrated competence to begin as an Extension Associate I, or an earned master=s degree in natural resources management, resource economics, or a related discipline and two years of relevant experience to begin as an Extension Associate II. Preferred candidates would have experience in issues of economic development, marketing, rural community development, wildlife and/or fisheries and/or forest resource economics.

 

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to develop an aggressive outreach program to provide landowners and associated rural communities the critical information necessary to allow sound decision-making and perhaps implementation of development of natural resources as an additional economic benefit from their lands, if so desired.  The successful candidate will work with small rural communities to ensure development of appropriate partnerships with surrounding landowners as natural resources are managed and integrated into a formal land management plan to yield economic returns.  This natural resource economist would work cooperatively with other MSU economists with rural community development interests.

 

Salary and rank: Salary and rank will be commensurate with level of qualification.  Benefits include personal and medical leave, retirement, and medical insurance.
