Assistant Natural Resources Extension Specialist
This is a full-time, non tenure-track faculty position to be filled on an eleven-month appointment. The position is 100% extension with the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service in the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and will be housed in the Department of Forestry.

Position Title: Assistant Natural Resources Extension Specialist
Position Location: Department of Forestry, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma
Position Description: The position will work in close coordination with state extension specialists for range, wildlife and forestry programs. This position is supported by Federal Renewable Resources Extension Act (RREA) funds. Initial appointment will be for one year with continuation contingent upon performance and available funds.
Responsibilities:
1. Assume a primary role in administration of the RREA educational program leading to the research-based management of private prairies, shrublands, forests and agricultural lands that sustain ecosystem services, societal well-being, and economic opportunities. Provide leadership in the area of Extension Wildlife as a significant component of the activities of the RREA education program.
2. Plan, implement and seek funding for natural resource based educational programs targeted at private landowners in Oklahoma. Develop cooperative programs with county extension agents, state and federal agencies, consultants, and other organizations.
3. Provide support for and participate in youth and adult educational programs to include youth camps, judging contests and state-wide 4-H activities.
4. Develop annual goals and objectives for the RREA program, provide budgeting leadership, and prepare plans for professional growth and development. This position reports to the Head, OSU Forestry Department, who receives input from other unit administrators regarding overall performance.
5. Maintain responsibility for coordination and production of a periodic newsletter on natural resource management. Assist with development of television features, radio stories and news releases focusing on integrated natural resource management. Produce technical fact sheets relating to natural resource management.
6. Participate in interdisciplinary programming efforts in wildlife management, forestry and range that include cooperation and communication across departments, colleges, and institutions.
Qualifications:
Required:
1. An M.S. degree in a natural resources management or similar field with a B.S. degree in a related discipline such as forestry, range, or wildlife management.
2. Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills
3. Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of people and to work with a minimum of supervision
Preferred:
1. A minimum of three years of post-graduate experience in a natural resources related field.
2. Experience with educational program delivery to private landowners and youth and adult education
3. Strong personal computer skills
4. Experience in producing a variety of media programs
5. Special consideration will be given to applicants with professional certification.
Schedule: The position will be filled May 1, 2005 or as soon before or thereafter as a qualified candidate is available.
Salary: Commensurate with qualification and experience.
