Extension Associate - Value-Added Wood Products
This position will be 100 percent extension in support of the mission of the Louisiana Forest Products Development Center (LFPDC). Duties include 1) Developing a value-added wood products manufacturing extension program, 2) Leading in the technology transfer of research in utilization of traditional wood products and innovative new products and processes to the value-added industry, and 3) Organizing and conducting workshops, seminars and continuing education programs for value-added wood products industries in Louisiana. Value-added products include, but are not limited to, furniture, flooring, cabinets, moulding, millwork and engineered wood products. This position will focus on assisting manufacturers based on in-depth knowledge of solid wood and wood-based materials.

Location: Louisiana Forest Products Development Center, School of Renewable Natural Resources, Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Description: This position will be 100 percent extension in support of the mission of the Louisiana Forest Products Development Center (LFPDC). This position will focus on assisting manufacturers based on in-depth knowledge of solid wood and wood-based materials.
Qualifications: Required qualifications are a M.S. in wood science, value-added wood products manufacturing or related area. Excellent communications skills, written and oral, and the ability to develop and present educational programs in field and classroom settings are also required. Industry experience is desirable.
Justification: Value-added wood products industries are undergoing rapid change in order to grow and compete with manufacturers based in low-cost-of-production countries. These changes focus on decreasing costs through improved manufacturing processes, product engineering, shortening design-manufacture cycles through advanced and flexible manufacturing technologies, increasing product quality, improving service, shortening delivery times, etc. Implementation of these changes is paramount for the value-added forest products industry in Louisiana, and this position is an integral part of the increased outreach activities by the LSU AgCenter and the LFPDC.
Salary and benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include retirement, university holidays, earned annual and sick leave, and optional group medical, life and supplemental insurances.
