The Auburn University School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences invites nominations and applications for the position of Director, Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center.  This is a 12-month, non-tenure-track position with outreach, teaching and research responsibilities. Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for the daily management and operation of the 5300 acre Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center located near Andalusia, Alabama.    This is a working forest with a diversity of management objectives including outreach, education, research, and the generation of income for its operation.  Duties include the supervision of five full and several part-time employees who support the forestry/wildlife management, research and educational programs at the Center.   The Director is also responsible for the development of the 5-year management plan with annual updates for the Auburn University Board of Trustees.  The incumbent is expected to approve and facilitate on-site activities of Auburn University faculty and graduate students as well as those of federal and state natural resource professionals who may utilize the facility for research and outreach.  Forestry/Wildlife Summer Practicum responsibilities include managing logistics and systems to support resident students, overseeing student governance, and teaching an undergraduate course entitled Introduction to Forest  Management Strategies.

Qualifications:   A master's degree in a natural resources or related field with at least one degree in professional forestry is required. An additional degree or professional experience in wildlife management is preferred.    A strong understanding of the interactions of land/forest/wildlife management with teaching, research and outreach experience is preferred.  The incumbent must have demonstrated proficiency in development of budgets, supervision of people, and teaching experience.   Training and/or experience in southern forest ecosystems is desired. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States and would be required to live on site in a home provided by Auburn University.   The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively in English.
