Sustainable Hardwoods Extension Specialist

The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue University is currently seeking an extension specialist to work with private landowners to sustain high value hardwoods in private stands.

An advanced degree in forest biology, forest management, forest ecology, botany or closely related field and a minimum of two years of experience in extension and/or applied research on forest or plantation management is required.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.  The successful candidate must possess the ability to work independently, function in interdepartmental and interagency teams, and to work effectively with clients and scientists.  Strong oral, written, and electronic communication skills are essential.  

 

This specialist will work with scientists at the Hardwood Tree Improvement and Regeneration Center and Purdue University Department of Forestry and Natural Resources to develop an extension and technology transfer program emphasizing problem-solving assistance and the delivery of research-based information to private forest land owners in the central hardwoods region.  Programming should empower landowners to adopt timber management and harvest strategies on existing woodlands that will sustain high value fine hardwoods for generations to come.  Applied research, demonstrations, and extension programming will be developed to refine deployment strategies for genetically improved hardwood seedlings and sustainable forest management strategies for native stands and to empower landowners to adopt these strategies on their lands.
