The College of Forestry at Oregon State University invites applications for the position of Professor and Department Head, Department of Wood Science & Engineering. This is a full time, 12-month, tenured position. The position becomes available September 1, 2011. The Department is one of three in the College, including Forest Engineering, Resources & Management and Forest Ecosystems & Society.

Our Department Head must be a strong leader and administrator who can effectively embrace our many stakeholders and advance our collective contributions to the three missions of our Land Grant University. An exciting opportunity for the Department Head will be leadership of our newly developed Renewable Materials degree program and institution of a strong undergraduate recruiting and retention agenda. He or she will be responsible for faculty and staff recruiting and retention, diversity, curriculum development, Extension and engagement programming, research, budgeting and reporting, facilities, gifts and endowments, and the acquisition of external funding. She or he will report to the Dean, College of Forestry and will play a significant role in College management through the Forestry Executive Committee.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-Candidates must have a PhD in wood science, renewable materials or related discipline.
-The candidate must possess an exemplary record of nationally known professional work which merits appointment as a tenured, full professor; excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; strong administrative skills with experience in areas such as personnel management, budget management, and fund-raising; professional forest resources experience in science, education, management, policy, or other relevant arena; understanding of and commitment to the research, teaching, and extended education functions of a Land Grant University.
-Must be able to demonstrate a commitment to educational equity in a multicultural setting, or evidence of commitment to advancing the participation of diverse groups and in supporting diverse perspectives.
-Demonstration of leadership potential through roles of continued responsibility for 2 or more years.
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills, which includes working effectively with people at various levels of an organization.
-A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
