Community and Economic Development Specialist

Community and Economic Development will provide innovative leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating statewide extension programs that address needs of limited resource audiences related community resource development; identify and conduct staff training and technical assistance for faculty, community leaders and volunteers; extend policy development and technical assistance for communities and organizations through strategic planning, need assessments, fund raising, evaluation; coordinate and facilitate the annual faith based conference inclusive of parish workshops; engage in collaborative networks, partnerships, and projects with state, community, and private agencies, Southern University System faculty and professional organizations dedicated to the optimal development rural and urban communities; collaborate with faculty and other university personnel to coordinate extension programs and activities with the Southwest Center for Rural Initiatives.

Position Title:            Assistant/ Associate Specialist

Community and Economic Development

Qualifications:

·         Master's Degree in community resource development, agriculture economics, rural sociology, extension education or closely related field, five years of professional community and economic development experience in Cooperative Extension or with non-profit entity.

·         Demonstrated expertise in the development, implementation and evaluation of successful educational programs and outreach efforts in community and economic development.

·         Demonstrated ability to interact and gain support from constituencies outside the Southern University System, such as faith community, business and industry, state and federal agencies, non-profits and private foundations.

 

In accordance with the scope of the position, the successful applicant:

·         will be required to travel in-state and out-of-state with the potential to be away from primary domicile for at least five days.

·         must be a U.S. citizen, or be lawfully eligible for employment in the United States.

·         must exhibit professional characteristics, such as cooperation, reliability, technical and academic competency, leadership skills, and effective communications skills.

·         must pursue programs of professional improvement including subject-matter in-service training

and graduate level programs.

 

Preferred: 

Ph.D. Preferred with at least three years of professional community and economic development

experience in Cooperative Extension or with a non-profit entity.

 

Salary:

Salary will be commensurate with education, training and experience.
