The Department of Natural Resources Management and Engineering (NRME) at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT has an opening for a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position (50% teaching and 50% research) to begin September 1, 2004. Salary is competitive depending on background and experience. 

 

Qualifications:  The successful applicant will have an earned PhD in Forest Science or closely related field by the date of the appointment.  Preferred candidates will have demonstrated teaching abilities and a strong record in scientific research demonstrating expertise in the physical, chemical and/or biological forest environment.  Quantification skills are highly desirable.  Preference will also be given to those who can show the ability to collaborate with other faculty in the department, extension personnel, and outside agencies and organizations. 

 

Responsibilities:   The successful candidate will teach two courses in forestry and/or forest practices in the NRME department undergraduate program and one graduate course in the applicant's specialty each year.   The applicant will be expected to develop an externally funded research program to enhance the scientific knowledge base for the development of optimally sustainable practices for forest ecosystems.

 

The Natural Resources Management and Engineering Department:  The Department has ~ 100 undergraduates, 35 graduate students in MS and PhD programs.  It has 12 faculty focusing on atmosphere, fisheries, forests, water resources, wildlife, remote sensing, and GIS/geodesy. Modern laboratories, significant computing capacity and the 1500 acre UCONN forest, located at Storrs, are available in the Department for experimental, computer modeling and analysis research.    The department has active research programs in forest micrometeorology, hydrology, biological systems, remote sensing and GIS which are all involved in cooperative environmental research.  The Department has an expanding international, interdisciplinary research program.
