Urban Environmental/Forestry Specialist

The Urban Environmental/Forestry position will serve as a joint appointment (50% Extension and 50% Plant and Soil Sciences). The successful applicant will have an in-depth knowledge of ecological concepts, and best practices for land and water conservation and waste management for urban and new nontraditional audiences.

Must understandcurrent and emerging environmental issues including pollution andpollution control, hazardous waste, the law as it relates toenvironmental problems, public policy, environmental justice,greenspace development and urban environmental systems; keeps abreastof environmental issues and conditions; understands and relays to diverseaudiences how these issues relate to and impact citizens in urbanenvironments; understands the impact of urban communities on land,water, air and wildlife; and plan and implement relevant programs andactivities to prepare citizens to respond appropriately to a variety ofenvironmental situations; be knowledgeable of interior environmentalmanagement with a focus on the use of hazardous products, theirrelationship to health and impact on the external environment; pursuesexternal funding and use research based information andstate-of-the-art resources to prepare and deliver presentations andeducational materials; develops curricular, media releases and otherresource publications; develop and distribute bulletins, pamphlets,fact sheets, newsletters, and deliver in-service trainings in supportof County Agents; works closely with faculty in the Center for Forestryand Ecology, coordinating programs and using technical expertise fromthe center as needed; provides assistance to Specialists and statewidefaculty; and collaborates with other agencies to incorporateenvironmental trainings into programs and services. <br><br>Job Specifications <br>Minimum qualifications are a Doctorate in Environmental Sciences,Forestry, Agriculture or a related area with an environmental sciencesemphasis.
