Asheville is the center for health care, banking, professional services, and transportation for a three-county metropolitan area in western North Carolina.  Recently emerging as an eastern haven for cultural amenities, it is home to a symphony, opera, and ballet and recognized for its thriving arts community.   It boasts several theater groups, summer concert series, and the nearby North Carolina Theatre.  Located at an elevation of 2,200 feet in the heart of the Southern Appalachians, the city has average summer highs of 82 dropping to winter lows of 32, and rainfall from 55 to 60 inches with some areas over 80 inches.  Surrounded by national forests and 50 miles from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Asheville is the gateway for numerous rivers and trails and spectacular drives on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Big city amenities are available within driving distance in Atlanta (3 hours), Charlotte or Knoxville (2 hours), and the Greeneville-Spartanburg metropolitan area (1 hour).

We expect to advertise these positions within over the next few months, so please distribute the outreach notice widely and encourage potential candidates to contact Carol Whitlock, Communications Program Manager, by phone (828-257-4389) or email (carolwhitlock@fs.fed.us) with all levels of interest.
