Assistant Professor, Wildlife and Wildlife Extension Specialist

This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position within the Department of Forestry in the College of Natural Resources. The successful candidate will also serve as a team member of the Forestry department s Extension Forestry Program, and as a member of the inter-departmental Fisheries & Wildlife Sciences Program. POSITION DESCRIPTION: This is a full-time, 12-month,tenure-track faculty position within the Department of Forestry in theCollege of Natural Resources. The successful candidate will also serveas a team member of the Forestry departments Extension ForestryProgram, and as a member of the inter-departmental Fisheries &Wildlife Sciences Program. Position requires a 70% teaching and 30%extension time allocation.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
: Teaching responsibility includes NaturalResources Conservation (2 classes/year 80 students); Natural ResourcesAdvocacy (20 students) and Summer Camp. Additionally, the successfulcandidate will develop an effective wildlife extension program inwildlife management with the opportunity to partner with other facultyto conduct research focused on wildlife.

Extension activity should include, but not be limited to, developingand providing leadership for new and current statewide extensionoutreach programming, management of private land wildlife habitats inrural and urban environments, and management of wildlife consumptionand damage issues on public and private lands. These activities shouldfocus on developing collaborative efforts with local, state, andgovernment agencies, citizen groups, as well as Universityfaculty/staff consistent with the land grant mission of North CarolinaState University.

The incumbent will be also be expected to train, provide educationaland web-based materials and work in close cooperation with extensionfaculty/staff throughout North Carolinas 100 counties. Some travel,particularly within the State of North Carolina, will be required.Additionally, all developed extension activities should be accessibleto a diverse audience, which will ensure that these programs areavailable to all individuals without regard to race, color, nationalorigin, sex, age or disability.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in Wildlife or closely relateddiscipline is required. A teaching portfolio is highly desirable.Specialization in areas related to how social and economic forcesaffect land management decisions of private landowners is desirable.The successful applicant should have the ability and desire to developand conduct effective extension/ outreach programs in cooperation withother faculty, staff and partner organizations. The individual must beable to communicate effectively in writing and orally using traditionaland innovative technology transfer techniques. Experience in seekingand writing grant proposals and managing grant funding is desired. Theindividual must have the ability to teach, conduct and developeffective demonstrations, educational programs and publications, aswell as evaluate the impact of extension programs.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS AND SALARY: This is a twelve-month, tenuretrack position. It is classified with EPA (exempt from personnel act)status. Hiring is approved at the Assistant Professor level. Salarywill be competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
