Several SREF staff members attended the ANREP 2018 Biennial Conference April 29 - May 3 in Biloxi, Mississippi. The conference was jam-packed with exciting talks! We would like to thank Mississippi State University Extension for hosting a great meeting complete with low-country boil.
SREF staff presided over two workshops and gave five presentations on our work over the course of the conference. Holly Campbell led fire-resistant landscaping, or firescaping, workshop where participants could actively create a firescape landscape design. Leslie Boby presented a talk on the upcoming online course being launched this fall for new Extensions professionals in forestry and natural resources. Leslie also recorded more than 30 interviews of ANREP attendees discussing their experiences in Extension and sharing their lessons learned. Dr. Dave Coyle explained how his regional forest health program began and what has worked and not worked.
Meanwhile, Regional Forester Dr. Bill Hubbard in collaboration with NCSU, UF and other national partners presented information on techniques for working on large trans-disciplinary projects, Extension Associate Holly Campbell gave a presentation on the NIFA-funded Master Gardener firescaping project, and she and Extension Associate Leslie Boby helped deliver a post-conference workshop to develop an ANREP wildland fire initiative. Finally, Dr. Dan Geller provided an overview of the Climate Learning Network.
