The 2007 Southern Forest Economics Workshop (SOFEW) will be convened in SanAntonio, Texas, from March 4 to 6, 2007. The theme of this year’s workshop is “GlobalChange and Forestry: Economic and Policy Implications.” Papers on this theme arewelcome as well as other aspects of forest economics and policy, particularly thoserelevant to the southern United States.

Based on comments from last year’s SOFEW survey, the conference will continue to sponsor a poster session including a best poster competition for graduate students. Monetary prizes will be awarded for the three best posters. The poster may be coauthored with another student or faculty member. To be considered for this competition, the student(s) must present the poster at the conference.

Abstracts for all papers and posters should be submitted to Jianbang Gan via email (jgan@tamu.edu) by January 15, 2007. Please indicate whether the abstract is for a paper or poster and, for graduate students, indicate whether the poster is intended for the “Best Student Poster” competition.

Information on the SOFEW conference registration and hotel accommodations will be available shortly at the SOFEW website (http://sofew.cfr.msstate.edu). Any questions should be forwarded to Jianbang Gan (j-gan@tamu.edu or 979-862-4392).
