The governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee was on hand to welcome Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman and other high-ranking officials to the National Forest Health Conference in Little Rock, Arkansas recently.  Both Huckabee and Veneman touted the Act as one that will prevent pests such as the Southern Pine beetle and the red oak borer from destroying forests.  The Healthy Forest Initiative “provides land managers with the tools to reduce wildland fire risk, control insects and disease and restore forest health,” Veneman said.  There are seven titles in the Healthy Forest Restoration Act however funding has been limited.   For more information on the Initiative or the Act please visit http://www.fs.fed.us/projects/hfi/.
