You are invited to submit an abstract/proposal for a presentation or poster at the NACDEP 2009 Conference. Track information is included below.

Economy:

Vibrant businesses and industries, strong employment opportunities and a diverse economic base are just a few of the many ingredients that contribute to the long-term economic vitality of communities. Sessions in this track will address a wide variety of topics ranging from strategies to diversity economics to specific tactics such as tourism, business retention and expansion, main street programs, as well as other business and economic development strategies.

Environment:

Natural and pastoral landscapes create the character of communities and support the cultural, economic, and social fabrics of community life. Sessions in this track will address issues including land use, water resources, nature-based recreation and stewardship of natural resources.

Engagement:

Vital communities have the ability to build networks of individuals, associations and organizations to strengthen the community. Sessions in this track will include topics such as leadership, civic engagement, volunteerism, social capital and deliberative democracy.

Equity:

One of the pillars of sustainability is social equity. To be truly sustainable, communities must work to promote equity between all citizens and toward future generations. Sessions in this track will include topics such as environmental justice, diversity, affordable housing, health care, safety and increasing participation of underrepresented groups.

Evaluation:

Evaluation is an attempt to answer the twin questions of how much did we do and how well did we do it. It is the process of determining the impact of what we have done. Sessions in this track will include topics such as measuring impact and providing accountability.
